Living with a Sila Sheepdog

A short owner’s note from daily life with Cristoforo Colombo — Coco — written for people who love dogs but also want to understand them better.

Not a decorative dog

The Sila Sheepdog is not a soft lifestyle accessory. Coco can be affectionate, gentle, and funny, but he remains a guardian-type dog with a strong sense of territory, rhythm, and observation.

Living with him means learning when to invite, when to wait, and when to simply let the dog read the world before asking for obedience.

The owner must slow down

The most useful training lesson has been humility. A guardian dog often notices changes before humans do: sound, smell, movement, tension, and routine.

This does not mean allowing chaos. It means building rules calmly, without fighting the dog’s nature. Structure works better when it respects instinct.

Coco as companion, not mascot

Coco appears in videos and photographs, but he is not content material first. He is a living companion with limits, moods, preferences, and a need for rest.

That is why this website keeps one simple idea at the centre: we adapt ourselves to animals before asking them to adapt completely to us.
